This is the second in a series of posts about anonymous credentials. You can find the first part here. In the previous post, we introduced the notion of anonymous credentials as a technique that allows users to authenticate to a website without sacrificing their privacy. The Manager’s Path walks the reader through the different phases of leadership software engineers encounter in their career, from intern mentor and tech lead to VP and CTO. The book is well written and filled with good advice. I actually first picked it up towards the end of 2024 and I stopped reading right at the point of where I was in my own career. It was somewhat helpful framing tool, but I didn’t think much of it until I picked it up....

Like everything else, we have been using AI in various forms for a while now, from asking ChatGPT to write a function to asking it to explain an error, then graduating to running it on our code in the IDE, and finally to full-blown independent coding assistants. Recently, we shifted into a much higher gear, rolling it out across most of the teams at RavenDB. I want to talk specifically about what that looks like in practice in real produc....

I spend a lot of time reviewing code, and I think it’d be easier if I saw more tastefully broken commits. Commits construct a story about a change: “first this happened, then that, that another thing” is a good narrative; “first everything happened, the end”… not so much. Sometimes, telling that story is impossible without having a commit that breaks tests or doesn’t compile! The principle that usually drives me to commit broken code is m....

In this case, a friend’s request for help turned into a challenge around fuzzy matching of text strings. So I took the opportunity to go and learn a new tool, and to present it here. Let me tell you about DuckDB, which acts like sqlite on steroids, perfect for data analysis of all kinds, but viewed through the lens of full-text similarity ..
