Today, constant innovation defines our marketplace. Businesses must respond to customer expectations for better digital experiences. How do leading organisations launch successful new products and respond rapidly to external change? How do they move beyond the desire to innovate to actively be innovative every day?

I don’t want a job without psychic income. Chances are if you’re creative, energized by change, and excited by the unexplored, neither do you. If there’s one thing I learned in five years of PhD research of artists and their values, it’s this. Money is nice. Psychic Income is better. There’s a lot to be done to bring this new currency of work out of the artist’s studio and into the places we work.

The key objectives of Organizations is to provide / derive value from the products / services they offer. To achieve this, they need to be able to deliver their offerings in the quickest time possible, and of good quality! In such a fast moving environment, CI (Continuous Integration) and CD (Continuous Delivery) are now a necessity and not a luxury! There are various practices that Organizations and Enterprises need to implement to enable ..

Sending a push notification from the simulator or mobile device is pretty trivial when we use the Push class. However, sending push messages from the server seems to be a bit more complicated for most developers since it’s not as well documented. The main point of complexity is that we didn’t provide any samples of server push code and from the fact that the server expects arguments as POST.

Just a quick update to searchcode. A few small tweaks here and there, but the largest is that there is now a file tree listing option which will show the file tree for any project. An example would be going to this file and then clicking the “View File Tree” button on the top left. An example screenshot of the result of this is included below.

At trivago we love hotels above everything else, but we also like metrics, we love to measure everything, compare, decide, improve and then rinse and repeat. In this blog entry we are going to describe our experience with InfluxDB, a time series database that we are using to store some real time metrics.

And if it snowed and snow covered the drive he took a spade and tossed it to one side. And always tucked his daughter up at night And slippered her the one time that she lied. And every week he tipped up half his wage. And what he didn’t spend each week he saved. And praised his wife for every meal she made. And once, for laughing, punched her in the face.

Enterprises of all sizes have confused novelty for innovation. Innovation institutes change: changing the offering, changing expectations, even (for the lucky few) changing the game. Novelty’s only benefit is its newness; like the smell of a new car, it rarely survives extended contact with its first customers. The pressures of the changing market have compounded that confusion with the desire to do anything, instead of the right thing. I..

NOTE: This article has been superseded by my more recent one here How to use EC2 GPU machines + Steam In-Home Streaming + a VPN to play AAA titles on a shitty laptop You might have tried a service like the now defunct OnLive . Though personally I’ve played and beat many AAA games on the service, it unfortunately a) had a very limited selection and b) is now gone. I also have a bunch of games on Steam that I’ve played using my ....

Devices have sensors such as accelerometer, GPS and up until now our support for them was relatively basic. Chen recently introduced a cn1lib that includes support for various types of sensors on the device. It’s really simple to use: SensorsManager sensor = SensorsManager.getSenorsManager(SensorsManager.TYPE_ACCELEROMETER); if (sensor != null) { sensor.registerListener(new SensorListener() { public void onSensorChanged(long timeStam..

So the aim here is to get the PowerGist project a nice CI process. I want to accept pull requests to the github repository and have these changes build, tested (future) and be published to Chocolatey for people to install/update. Before I go on, if you haven’t used chocolatey , its a great tool similar to apt-get on linux for installing applications - have a look at it now, I’ll wait. Good, now that’s sorted lets crack on. As this is....

I have an amazing time machine that lets me think better about projects. This is part 2 in a series of blog posts exploring the use of a time machine. This is a trick that I learned from my User Experience (UX) friends. In many projects, the project members have a great feeling about the possibilities of the product they are building, even if they quite know if they will get there or if the road ahead will be bumpy.

With Oh-My-Vagrant (omv) you can set up a dev environment in seconds. (Read the omv introduction if you’ve never used it before!) Since everything is defined in a single omv.yaml file, it is easy to share your cluster prototype with a friend! The one missing feature was associating code with this config file. This is now possible! Let me show you how it works… In the omv.yaml file there is an extern variable. It is a list of each ext..

New Technologies, New Methods: Closing the Feedback Loop in the Internet of Things. The Internet of Things is accelerating rapidly, and bringing with it a wealth of opportunity. Though many focus on the data and technology needs of the Internet of Things - the sensors, data, and the storage, security, and analysis of that data - we’re already forgetting to think about the humans interacting with those technologies.
