Hot Reloading Code in Erlang: How Does It Work? Table of Contents 1. How does Erlang store code? 2. Basic state migration 3. Okay, now do it with TCP 4. This sounds like a maintenance nightmare, why would you do this to yourself? Engine schematic for the Paraguay Railway. I took this back in December 2024. Hot reloading is a bit like swapping out the engine while the train is moving. A while back, I fixed....

Background At home, I run a small 4 node k3s cluster on Dell Wyse 5070 , primarily for the experience but also just for the fun of it. It houses all sorts of containers, but happily handles almost everything I throw at it, including Home Assistant, an MQTT instance, Predbat, Smokeping etc. etc. This little stack of 4 Dell thin clients sits on the corner of my desk, each being powered via a single USB power supply - this means it only ta..

Over Christmas holidays I spend some time playing with the firefly-zero SDK. Over the weekend I took some free time to implement a Tetris clone. Parts of the game loop are already functional. My goal is to create a highly customisable version (configure block colors, enable games with/without save blocks, toggle next block preview, configurable number of rols/cols…), to make a more interesting version of Tetris. Your browser doesn't sup....

I’ve shipped a lot of software where internationalization starts as “we’ll add it later” and ends as “why is this hot path allocating and formatting strings on every request?” This time I wanted to do it differently. So I ran an experiment: could I build a serious, production-ready internationalization framework for .NET in a weekend, using Claude Code as a turbocharged implementation partner—while keeping full creative control over desig....

From a certain point of view, there are two kinds of people in the world: builders and not-builders. This isn’t judgment—it’s observation. Some people consume. Others create. Builders can’t help it.

Disclaimer: Lengthy Draft Period Most of this post was authored in June 2025 then sat around as a draft for 8 months (things got hard at work). But there's too much material for me to fully adjust it, so this is mostly a stale post with some small updates at the bottom X11, thank you for your service After struggling with getting awesomewm+X11 to respond fast enough to my leader keybind, for like a million years, plus seeing some interes....

I’m going to say something that’ll upset people: if your developers have cluster-admin access in production, you’re running on borrowed time. I don’t care how small your team is. I don’t care if “everyone’s responsible.” It’s insane, and I’ve got the scars to prove it. This article is the RBAC deep dive I wish I’d had before a developer on my team ran kubectl delete namespace production-api on a Friday afternoon. Not maliciously. He thoug..
