Interesting video, and the statistics are different than the media often portrays. The real statistics are much less inflammatory than the story that gets told. The post “Statistics on Cop on Black Crime” – #SOC119 first appeared on Joel Gross's Blog .

We’ve always found strace useful but somewhat hard to work with. Its output is often inscrutable, it’s hard to follow subprocesses or threads, and if you want to filter syscalls you have to rerun the trace with a flag for each one. What you want in debugging is a tool for exploring, refining, etc., but strace can make this difficult.

In my last post I used the word “clanker 1 ” as an alternative to “agent” quite consistently and probably excessively. That choice ended up attracting a lot more attention than I expected in the Hacker News comment section of that post and a number of folks had a very strong reaction: to them it sounded like a slur, in one case even something adjacent to the n-word. That reaction surprised me somewhat, but it also made me realize that....

Hello, I have a question regarding AirVPN’s transparency around legal requests. ProtonVPN publishes a transparency report where it is possible to see that they have received a number of legal orders/requests over the years, sometimes over a hundred in a single year. Since AirVPN is also a well-known and fairly widely used VPN service, I was wondering why there do not seem to be similar figures or an equivalent transparency report availabl..

Cloud photo solutions are fantastic right up until they start hitting you with subscription limits, heavy web tracking, or bulky interfaces. Recently, I wanted to self-publish a chronological historical photo archive of our local event, Urkerdag , across multiple years. Each photo folder represents one year, nearly 5000 photos spread across 15 folders. Instead of reaching for heavy JavaScript frameworks or dynamic content databases that ....

There’s something genuinely energizing about working with startups — something I’ve been doing intensely for more than two years now. Startups operate at a different frequency: the urgency is real, the constraints are tight, and the stakes are personal. Helping them navigate the challenge of proving their business model requires not just technical depth but […]

Last edit Summary: I quite like the global Auto Revert mode. It is especially useful when I something else than Emacs sometimes changes my files. (I bet some readers immediately thought about the now-fashionable agentic coding, but plain old git switch is enough!) It has one drawback, however. I hardly ever use TeX nowadays, but when I do, I use pdf-tools. Auto Revert mode doesn’t play nice with pdfs open in Emacs, often trying to revert....

If there’s one thing I miss about being a kid, it’s the sheer fervour I had for the media I consumed. Being an adult’s alright, but it kinda sucks knowing that I can’t experience media with the curiosity, wonder, and ability to form wild attachments that I used to have. You get what I mean? Emotional immersion , perhaps? And while I certainly miss the utter joy of characters overcoming their struggles, what oddly miss is the fear . Ok....
