Shout out to the awesome work here from Alex Yates! This post builds on that work and updates a few bits. What is the the aim? I have a file called IMAGETAG.txt which contains a simple version v1.0.1. It is used to build and push a Docker container as part of the build. If the file is changed in a commit, I want to build and push the docker image. Now normally you could use the Path filtering stuff build into the Azure Devops Trigger..

If you’re working on something new, there are so many directions your work and product can take. The biggest risk is that you build something that is hard to explain and no one wants. A good process minimizes this risk. Helping you move in the direction of building something people want. To build June me and my cofounder Enzo used a very systematic approach. We decided to shared it as you might find useful.

Ambitious companies form management teams at every level above you, sometimes including you. Management teams meet periodically and have private chat rooms. They discuss customers, product and organizational direction. Sometimes discussions are well documented and periodically public. Sometimes decisions are poorly telegraphed out. Management teams do no inherent harm in a company with customers; employees outside of the management team c....

Quite often I will come across long articles and either put off reading them or just skim through their content. This article is well worth taking the time to read as it completely changed my views on where the media industry is heading. My notes here do not do it justice but will hopefully give you enough to encourage you to read it in full.

Outlier analysis is a typical step in distribution exploration. Usually, we work with the “lower outliers” (extremely low values) and the “upper outliers” (extremely high values). However, outliers are not always extreme values. In the general case, an outlier is a value that significantly differs from other values in the same sample. In the case of multimodal distribution, we can also consider outliers in the middle of the distribution. L....

As some folks might be aware, I became allergic to gluten and dairy through the spring of 2019, and have been avoiding them in my diet since. Becca and I have not lost our passion for eating great foods, and visiting some of the fantastic restaurants in the cities we visit (although, in 2020, this has meant a lot of places in the Bay Area). One of the things that we’ve struggled a bit with is finding out how well some of the Michelin star e..

It’s odd when you think about how most of your understanding of the world, your political views, your goals, and much more is defined by just a few experiences. I can lay out the path from being born a southern, Christian-by-default, Republican-by-default kid to a Democratic Atheist person whose not sold on the virtues or unendingness of Capitalism. Funnily, the International House of Pancakes has quite a bit to do with the start of all tha..

Hewlett & Packard, the founders, had great lessons to teach us (managers in high-tech) about culture. To the extend of quoting them in my awesome list on engineering team management . 👨💼 HP Inc., the company, sucks. At least their printer division’s business model . They recently pushed a firmware update to ban …

There are a lot of sites that claim to be idea generators. Most of them turn out to be just a button you click that slings together a bunch of random words that are meant to then become a prompt to generate ideas.

As I’m writing this, there seem to be a huge amount of furor over the US elections. I don’t want to get into that particular mess, but I had a few idle thoughts about how to fix one of the root issues here. The fact that the system of voting we use is based on pen & paper and was designed when a computer was a job title for a practical mathematician. A large part of the problem is that we have to wait for a particular date, and there ar....
