Over the last week, I’ve written a nifty tool that I call reptyr. reptyr is a utility for taking an existing running program and attaching it to a new terminal. Started a long-running process over ssh, but have to leave and don’t want to interrupt it? Just start a screen, use reptyr to grab it, and then kill the ssh session and head on home. You can grab the source, or read on for some more details.

This past weekend I went to GenghisCon. If I had to describe what kind of a convention GenghisCon is exactly, I would just call it an all things awesome convention. I'm going to poke my head in here to reassure everyone that the game is making steady progress. The environment now turns transparent when it gets in the way of the camera, and the player has some nifty new moves and mechanics, plus a very shnazzy looking power bar to indicate how much "juice" you have to perform special moves. At the start of the quarter, I found out that instead of charging by the credit hour, my school charges the same rate for twelve to eighteen credit hours. Since I was only taking fourteen credit hours, I decided to take a hiking class. I know, I know, hiking in winter? Yes, it was cold. But I met a few people, had fun, and got some exercise.

Like many before me, I've spent a good number of programming hours/days/weeks in the past trying to write my own regular expressions to do this. But I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy to do that ever again. The techniques for XSS are many and advanced and you'll be fighting an uphill battle if you think you can "roll your own".
