I saw this post on Hacker News today and thought it might be interesting to the TextMate users out there. It's written by this person, Jack Kinsella and he goes very much in-depth into how to convert yourself from being a TextMates to a vim user. Warning: this proof requires a bit of familiarity with the terminology of propositional logic and graph theory. Problem: Let $ G$ be an infinite graph. Show that $ G$ is $ n$-colorable if and only if every finite subgraph $ G_0 \subset G$ is $ n$-colorable. Solution: One of the many equivalent versions of the Compactness Theorem for the propositional calculus states that if $ \Sigma \subset \textup{Prop}(A)$, where $ A$ is a set of proposit..

An [equilateral triangle](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Equilateral_triangle), in case you've forgotten, is a triangle composed of lines that are all of the same length. For some reason I started thinking about those kinds of triangles the other day and wanted to create one, for use in a pattern or something. I could have opted to just google for an image of one, but I wanted to draw one by hand. I started by creating a shape using the pen ..

Yesterday the contracts were signed to acquire Infigo as part of Nemein . Infigo, is a consulting company focused on mobile development and web using open source tools. You'll probably at least know their CTO, Jerry of the USB finger fame . Even in the ten years of history of our company this is quite a significant move - it allows us to combine Nemein's traditional expertise on content management with Infigo's mobile offerings. As ..

I am not an FPS player. That is, I wasn’t until I read the game plotline for Deus Ex: Human Revolution. I’ve been excited about FPS storylines before, namely Mass Effect. However when I actually tried playing Mass Effect I didn’t really get drawn in. I mean, I did…but a particular gameplay element that annoyed the heck out of me pulled me out of the story and put me into frustrated-and-just-want-to-go-away-now mode.

It’s modern practice in web applications to augment text fields with suggestions while one types. There are plenty of Javascript libraries out there to do that, and plenty of integrations with the Java web framework Wicket out there as well, but somehow none quite did exactly what I wanted, so I’ve rolled my own Wicket code (based on JQuery). What I wanted, but what other Wicket / Javascript libraries did not do, were:

Found a much clearer set of how-to’s by windows phone geek here . This is a post for the developers out there. I wanted to use the hubtile control from the wp7 silverlight toolkit, but along side it also use the context menu from the same toolkit, while having the whole lot databound inside a listbox. It took me a while to come up with a solution that I was happy with. I’m not sure if it’s following best practices but it seems to wor....

V8 Bundled Exec call – and Oracle Program Interface (OPI) calls

So, what he hell is that V8 Bundled Exec call which shows up in various Oracle 11g monitoring reports?! It’s yet another piece of instrumentation which can be useful for diagnosing non-trivial performance problems. Oracle ASH has allowed us to measure what is the top wait event or top SQLID for a long time, but now it’s also possible to take a step back and see what type of operation the database session is servicing.

I ran into this post on HN today. It's from a guy who often gets brought in to help teams refactor old ruby on rails code. My experience with rails has been that it's pretty good at abstracting most of the crap away from your code base and gives you a nice clean structure for your code, but his argument seems to be that as soon as you start doing some spaghetti stuff, you get into trouble.
