I got into a discussion with a colleague on the Java vs. JavaScript subject, which is a problematic subject to begin with. He then mentioned how great React Native is, I decided I have to look into it and maybe grab some ideas for Codename One. There are some nice ideas there, but none of them is revolutionary or exceptional and most of them are pretty old news for Codename One developers running in Java 8.

THE END. Tiny Keep has the distinction of being the last. But sadly not the best. This is actual a fair reflection of me this evening. They’ve bizarrely decided to use normal* console controls - left stick does movement, right stick controls the camera. This makes it nigh-on impossible to control reliably, especially when you get to combat later. Managed to set myself and a bunch of enemies on fire. Oops.

Finally getting around to Amnesia and … meh. Games with voice acting really grind my weasels. It’s just such a waste of resources and effort and then all your dialog has to be plotted for voice and BLEUGH. It actually took a while to get to this point - it turns out that you need to turn off “Display Scaling for High DPI” or the screen will be zoomed and the mouse will jank about like Keith Richards double teaming meth with crack.

The Long Dark is like a first-person Don’t Starve - except prettier and more difficult. This is the only game I’ve seen which lets you pick metric (correct!) and 24 hour clock (correct!). Confusingly, even though the “Feels Like” went from -20º to -15º whilst I was playing, my temperature was heading downwards faster than everyone’s favourite* blue team. I do like a realistic inventory, though. You get some good scenery.
